Seeking Your Input

31 March 2013 Leave a comment

I am asking for your help to enrich the cadet experience across the Wing.  How can you help?  It’s simple.

If you learn of an event or activity that you think is an appropriate learning opportunity for you and your fellow cadets, especially those your squadron already plans to attend, please let me know the details.  There may be other squadrons across the state interested in attending and it’s always better when we can share the experience with the widest audience.

Keep your eyes and ears open, and if you have something to propose, please email me the details along with your squadron POC if applicable.

Cadet applicants and prospective Cadet Staff members must submit CAPF 31, Application for CAP Encampment or Special Activity. Senior Staff applicants must submit a CAPF 17, Application for Senior Member Activities. Cadet staff participation is open to those Senior Airmen and above meeting all Staff Sergeant promotion criteria except time in grade and completion of the promotion exam.

Encampment 2013 – August 19-29

Basic Cadets:

Applications may be submitted to either Maine Wing Headquarters by mail, or  the Director of Cadet Programs by email. The cost will be $150 and basic cadets will be arriving on the 19th of August, around midday and will be dismissed in the early afternoon on the 29th of August. Any cadet with concerns about the fee should first go to their squadron commander for assistance, if the squadron is unable to help, Maine Wing CP can help.

No cadet should abstain from applying because they cannot afford to pay the fee.  Everything possible will be done to ensure every cadet can attend if they want to do so.

The deadline for basic cadet applicants is the 19th of July.

Second Year Cadets*:

For those cadets who have already attended an encampment in Maine or elsewhere and do not want or do not receive a staff position will have the opportunity to take part in an “advanced encampment”. The program will rotate you through most of the encampment staff positions and also provide additional, more advanced instruction from that of the basic encampment. You will also be expected to teach some classes to the basic encampment cadets.

The deadline for second year applicants for the advanced program is the 19th of July.

Staff Cadets:

Applications are now being accepted for all staff positions. Interested cadets should send a CAPF 31, a resume detailing CAP experience and any other relevant experiences, and a short description (just a few sentences) regarding why you want to hold whatever position(s) you are applying for. Please include the actual position you want, I can’t read minds.

Applicants for cadet commander should do the same, but please give a little more regarding why you want to be the c/CC.

The deadline for staff applicants is May 17th. For cadet commander applicants the deadline is April 19th.

All Cadets:

Applications being submitted by email should be sent to: NFellows@mewg.cap.gov and please copy your squadron commander on the email unless they have directed you to do otherwise.

If the application is being mailed it should be sent to the following address:

Maine Wing CAP
P.O. Box 5006
Augusta, ME 04332

Please ensure that your squadron commander and parent(s) have signed the CAPF 31 you send. If you are not from Maine Wing, you must also have your wing commanders endorsement, and those not in North East Region will also need their region commanders autograph.

Space is not infinite, so please apply as soon as possible and as always, if you have questions or comments feel free to email me, but please act in accordance with unit policies regarding such communications. Some squadrons require the squadron commanders approval before emailing wing staff.

* If a ground team encampment is held the application procedures and requirements will be the same. You must have attended an encampment before and apply before the 19th of July. Again, there isn’t one planned as of this moment, but hopefully that changes. In any event, apply for the advanced program, you will be allowed to switch if a GT encampment does go forward.
